34th Veteran of the Quarter, E. Bruce Greeno, US Marine Corps

Edgar Bruce Greeno enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on August 3, 1965, at the age of 18, where he reported to the Maine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego for boot camp. Upon finishing basic training, he completed a four-week course for Motor Vehicle Operators and was sent to Vietnam with the A Company 1st Military Transport Battalion, 1st Marines Division.
While in Vietnam, Bruce transported troops, supplies, and Agent Orange. He was involved in many operations from April 1966, including “Union” and “Hue City.” From April 1968 to January 1969, Bruce worked the motor transport at Camp Pendleton. He finished his military career with the Marine Corps Reserves through July 1971.
While on active duty with the Marine Corps, Bruce received several medals including National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two battle stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Letter of Appreciation, and Rifle Expert Badge.
After discharge from active military service, Bruce returned home to Lake City, Arkansas where he then met his wife, Denise. They married and moved to Indiana where Bruce worked at the US Steel Mill. In August of 1971, they moved to McClurg, Missouri where Bruce worked for Hailey’s Dairy Farm and went to HVAC School. In 1972, Bruce took a job with Frazier Brothers, and, in 1985, Bruce moved his family to Branson and went to work for KAMO Electric from which he retired.
In 2002, Bruce became a Charter Member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 913. He served eight years as Treasurer, one term as Vice President, and is currently in his second term as President. He was honored as the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 913 Member of the Year, and serves on the VVA Color Guard and Honor Guard. Bruce is a member of the Masonic Lodge, a 33rd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite, and Abou Ben Adhem Shrine. He is also an Associate Member of the College of the Ozarks.
Bruce has instilled his patriotic spirit in his family. His daughter currently serves as an Associate Member of the College of the Ozarks. Both his daughter and daughter-in-law are members of the Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America. His grandson serves in the Navy as a Gunner’s Mate, and his grandson-in-law is currently serving in the reserves as a Marine.
